Volunteering

Find out more about the people who volunteer for FORGE and how you can get involved. Here’s what some of our volunteers think about working with FORGE

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength. Loving someone deeply gives you courage.

Meet Jacob

Hi everyone! My name is Jacob, I’m from New Jersey in the United States, and currently I’m a Bachelor’s of Science graduate in molecular and cellular biology. I’m eagerly pursuing my Master’s of Genetic Counselling degree now. I want to make a broad impact on diverse communities and the health disparities still being faced across them. Here at FORGE, I help accomplish this as a volunteer genetic/genomic newborn screening researcher, looking at studies and commercial programs all around the world. I’m excited about the lives we can touch through this integral step of FORGE’s groundwork for becoming a strong platform for advancing genetics care, advocacy, and more. Every child, every family, deserves the chance to grow and thrive, and so I’m proud that I can contribute to this mission in this way. Let’s FORGE ahead!

Spotlight on our roles

Medical volunteers

We need volunteers with a medical or research background.

What’s involved?

It’s hard to say exactly what you’d be doing, but it could involve some of the following tasks:

  • detailing published research papers
  • collating available treatment data
  • helping build patient registries
  • helping develop our researcher, clinician and expert networks.

This would be a fantastic opportunity for a trainee medical student – you’ll get real-world experience, boost your CV and make a positive difference to the lives of those with rare genetic diseases.
